Peer Coaching Widgets & Ideas

Welcome fellow coaches (and any other folks)! The idea of this peer coaching page is to share (hopefully) helpful thoughts and ideas with coaching colleagues. The inspiration for this link was actually the result of an uncompleted homework assignment during a training class. The assignment was to find several helpful Internet links related to ADD Coaching and send them to my classmates. Well, this has been a personal open loop for quite some time now. Hopefully this page will contain some helpful information for these folks and relieve me of my guilt for never turning in my assignment.

If you just happened upon this page while visiting the site, feel free to explore. What you'll find here will give you an indication of my coaching style and what type of things are particularly inspirational for me.

Some of My Favorite Quotes

  • What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.- Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 121-180)
  • There's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.
    - the character Morpheus in the movie The Matrix
  • When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: Either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly. - Edward Teller
  • You don't have the power to make life "fair", but you do have the power to make life joyful. - Jonathan Lockwood Huie
  • I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. - Neil Gaiman (American Gods)

Some of My Favorite Videos

  • In The Stillness - I've been working on my own variations of meditation for awhile with limited success. It still feels a lot like I'm standing still between a set of railroad tracks staring at a huge locamotive as it's barreling down on me. This song helps me realize there really is no train and the world has yet to come to an end any time I've managed to sit still for six and a half minutes to view this video.
  • The Face of God - This video reminds me that the Spirit is not just in some of us, It's in everyone. It helps me remember to always try to find the 'Peace of Christ' that I believe resides within each of us. It's a motivator towards service.
  • Just Breathe - This song by Pearl Jam is a peaceful, soft, simple, expression of my gratitude and love for God.
  • Society - In a country that simply has so much, it becomes easy to almost subconciously get lost in a state of entitlement. The movie Into the Wild reminded me of the subtle ways that we can be sucked away from our true hearts desire only to find ourselves in an exhaustive pursuit of greed. Christopher McCandless (aka Alexander Supertramp) saw this everywhere he looked, even right within his own family, and tried desperately to escape. This song by Eddie Vedder, from the movie's soundtrack, inspires me to at least try to value relationships over things like recognition, social status, and material wealth.
  • Take a Minute - This is a song that may take more than a minute to explain. The artist, K'naan, has become one of my favorite heros. He was born in Somalia and, as a very young teenager, found himself right in the middle of the Somali Civil War. He experienced suffering that few of us Americans can truly comprehend; losing many young friends and relatives to things such as murder, suicide, prison, and deportation. Through it all, he held on to his dreams and now brings his message of hope to the West. For me, this song carries three important messages:
    1. Pride is a dangerous thing. Often, those who claim to understand what's going on really don't know a damn, damn thing at all.
    2. To Give is truly priceless.
    3. Take a minute and let it ride - reminds me to accept whatever moment I find myself in ...
Take a minute and let it breeze - reminds me to pause and listen to The Spirit, who talks to me in the soft, calm voice of the wind.
  • Coldplay - Till Kingdom Come & Ring Of Fire - This was simply worth including. It's an inspirational song and Coldplay just does Johnny Cash great at the end.
  • Video Index - Simple index of current YouTube video links on my site ...

ADD Coaching Links

Yes indeed, this is the section that is supposed to address the actual homework assignment described in the introduction at the top of this page AND it is indeed the one section that still needs to be completed. Thus, the infamous coming soon ... (but it is, I promise)
